January 22 Concert In The Park

The Bonita Springs Concert Band will be presenting a superb musical program on January 22 from 2:00-4:00 PM in Riverside Park on Old 41 in Bonita Springs. Over sixty band members, under the direction of Dr. Dennis Hill, will play rousing marches by John Phillips Sousa, Henry Fillmore and Albert Sweet, a medley of Mancini’s most familiar and famous pieces including Pink Panther, Moon River, Baby Elephant Walk, Dreamsville and Peter Gunn, a beautiful arrangement of Loch Lomond, and The Poet And Peasant Overture, a score from a Viennese operetta. Jazz is on the program and you will be tapping your toes to the band’s renditions of Shifflin’ Down To Memphis and Night Train. A trio of trumpeters will wow the audience with a rendition of Triple Treat and Gabriel Wallace, an award winning high school alto saxophone player who is a member of the band, will entertain by playing Catch Me If You Can from the movie by the same name.

Christmas/Holiday Concert Review

Rain didn’t dampen the enthusiasm of the large crowd gathered in Riverside Park to hear the Christmas concert. Antonio Castillo was fabulous playing the piccolo trumpet, and Connie Gowan Hill electrifying singing four songs to get the audience in the holiday mood. The talented trumpet section wowed the audience with their rendition of “Bugler’s Holiday”, and the entire band engaged the audience playing Christmas medleys, English tunes and spirited marches. It was a fabulous afternoon.

The next concert will be January 22nd and the line up of talented musicians is very exciting. I will preview the concert in a few weeks so keep posted.

CONCERT SEASON IS HERE!

The Bonita Springs Concert Band opens its fourth season on
Sunday, November 6, in the Band Shell at Riverside Park on Old 41.

Conductor, Dr. Dennis Hill, is dedicating the program in memory of Skip Perry, former band director at Three Oaks Middle School in Estero and a trumpet player in the band. The Willie Milton “Skip” Perry Jr. memorial plaque will be presented to his school.

In honor of Veteran’s Day, the band salutes the military, past and present, playing a medley titled The Homefront: Musical Memories From World War II, as well as Who’s Who In Navy Blue, America Triumphant March, The High School Cadets, Spirit Of The Corps and the Armed Forces Salute.

The trombone section will wow you with Shoutin’ Liza Trombone, and Robert Thurston, Euphonium player, will play Canzonetta for Euphonium and Band. Clap to the beat of Classic Duke, a Duke Ellington medley which includes Cotton Tail, Sophisticated Lady and It Don’t Mean A Thing. Granada and English Folk Song Suite round out the program.

Spend a Sunday afternoon in the park.

Time is 2:00 P.M.

Our fourth season of magical, exhilarating music is almost here. Circle Sunday, November 6 on your calendar. The Bonita Springs Concert Band, under the direction of Dr. Dennis Hill, will be performing all your favorite music in this free concert in Riverside Park on Old 41 in Bonita Springs. The band plays marches, pop, ragtime, big band, show tune medleys, and light classics. Concert time is 2:00 – 4:00 P.M. See you there!

THE BONITA SPRINGS CONCERT BAND SEEKS NEW MUSICIANS

The Bonita Springs Concert Band, under the direction of Dr. Dennis Hill, opens the concert season at Riverside Park in Bonita Springs on November 6. Rehearsals begin on Thursday, October 6 in the band room at the Three Oakes Middle School in Estero. All rehearsals are on Thursdays from 7:00-9:30 P.M.

Interested musicians should e-mail a request for membership information to bonitaspringsconcertband@yahoo.com. A short questionnaire will be provided asking for contact information, musical background, and instrument preference. New members will be auditioned for seating purposes.

Directions to Three Oaks Middle School, and any necessary instructions and information will be provided after contact is made via the web site. Part time residents should list their availability Concert dates are: 11/06/11, 12/11/11, 01/22/12, 02/19/12, 03/18/12, 04/15/12.

Closing Concert Review (April 10)

The final concert of the 2010-2011 took place on April 10 at Riverside Park. Dr. Dennis Hill directed the band playing songs recorded by The Blues Brothers, an arrangement of songs from Porgy and Bess, Themes from Offenbach, Serenata, Armed Forces Salute, Dixieland on Parade, America, the Beautiful , Die Fledermaus Overture, Children of Sanchez, El Camino Real and a number of marches. A highlight of the concert was Latin Fantasy, a Chuck Elledge arrangement played beautifully by Maureen Steger, principal flutist.

The Bonita Springs Concert Band is comprised of more than sixty talented musicians, professional and non-professional, who offer concert goers the opportunity to enjoy quality music in an informal setting. The Band Shell in Riverside Park is a great place for Sunday afternoon concerts. Each year the audience gets larger as people learn about us. The Band would like to thank everyone for their support. Have a great summer.

BONITA SPRINGS CONCERT BAND APRIL 10 SPRING CONCERT

Bring your neighbors and friends to Riverside Park on Sunday, April 10 for a special free concert. The band, under the direction of Dr. Dennis Hill, will play the overture from the well known operetta, Die Fledermaus. Maureen Steger, principal flutist, will play the very beautiful Latin Fantasy. The band will get into high gear playing Chuck Mangione’s Children of Sanchez. Chuck won a Grammy for this piece. Who can forget The Blues Brothers? The band plays a revue of I Can’t Turn You Loose, Soul Man, Soul Finger, and Everybody Needs Somebody To Love. Dixieland on Parade including Sugar Blues, a medley from Porgy and Bess, an Armed Forces Salute, Serenata, Themes from Offenbach, marches, and First Suite in E-Flat for Military Band round out the program.
The concert starts at 2:00 P.M. Bring a chair and refreshments.

March 13th Concert Review

The Bonita Springs Concert Band, under the direction of Dennis Hill, was electric on Sunday as they played old and new music for the audience’s enjoyment. Antonio Castillo and Skip Perry sounded magical playing Star Dust on trumpet and keyboard. Skip also accompanied the band in a musical arrangement from Ben Hur. You could hear the people singing along to such old favorites as Peg O’ My Heart, Alexander’s Ragtime Band, I Want A Girl, By the Light of the Silvery Moon and 12th Street Rag.. Connie Hill, vocalist, entertained by singing Someone To Watch Over Me and My Heart Will Go On.The band also played marches, folk rhapsodies, light classics, the Big 11 Medley, patriotic songs and a medley of songs by the Beatles.
The Bonita Springs Concert Band is made up of sixty talented, dedicated musicians who are eager to share their love of music. Be a part of the fun and come to the final concert of the season. The venue is Riverside Park on April 10 at 2:00 P.M.
